Brand new thermometer with fresh batteries will give you screen when hitting the button, "measure" and is a blue color. Holding close to forehead then the light goes off and after no temp reading, the unit will then shut off. After trying MANY times during this learning period occasionally got temps from 101.9 and 99.7 then 70.0. Made in China does not surprise me that it does not work. Mine appears to be an older model though purchased on Medline app. Sad that I wasted my dollars.

I'm happy with it. I think it's easy to use and works great. I compared readings to my old digital thermometer; they were not exact each time, but very close. Who's to say my old digital thermometer wasn't the one that was slightly off? If the readings are that close, I'm using this one. I was sick a few months ago, and the ease of using this one won out over the digital thermometer.

The button to take the temperature is located under where one's hand would be to hold the device pointed at a head.
